Award Recognition for Saint Martin Faculty

An Office of Student Success was created during this school year, with a shift to focus on our student retention and strengthening of the positive aspects of our school culture. We are working as an entire school community to live the motto, “Be Saint Martin”. Importantly, our student success team includes two Master of Social Work counselors, a school psychologist, and Mandel School of Applied Social Science, School of Social Work student interns. Sadly, too few schools have licensed social workers and our city’s students desperately need the services social workers and psychologists provide.

Two members of our Counseling Office recently received award recognition for their work:

Gwen Howard, MSSA, LSW, was named Ohio School Social Worker of the Year. Gwen is a dedicated social worker not only here at Saint Martin, but at her church, and in the community! Gwen is also the Regional Director for OSSWA (Ohio School Social Work Association) and has been working with Cleveland State University on the launch of their School Social Work program.

Ebony Speakes, an intern with the Counseling Office, was named Master Social Work Student of the Year Award for the National Association of Social Workers in Region 3 of Ohio. In addition to her work at Saint Martin, Ebony is running for city commissioner in her hometown of Springfield, Ohio.

Congratulations to Gwen & Ebony!
