Mary Ann Vogel, 2011 Crain's Cleveland Business Woman of Note

We are thrilled to announce that our founding principal, Mary Ann Vogel, has been named by Crain’s Cleveland Business as one of the Class of 2011 Women of Note. Each year Crain’s honors Northeast Ohio's outstanding female business leaders who bring passion, dedication and strength to our region's professional landscape.

Mary Ann, along with the other 14 recipients, will be recognized at the Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, July 20 at LaCentre in Westlake. Tickets for the awards luncheon are available online or you can contact Jessica Snyder at 216-771-5388.

Mary Ann has worked tirelessly to build a school culture that begins with expressing care, concern and genuine love for students. This relationship-based approach to education is central to the success that Saint Martin has enjoyed.

Mary Ann’s biography is also extraordinarily compelling. She is the daughter of Slovenian American parents, who fled their homeland to escape communism. Her mother came to the United States in 1949 after living as a war refugee in Austria for four years. Her father worked to help others escape from Yugoslavia to places such as Austria prior to coming to the U.S. in 1951. For his work, he became a wanted man and was not permitted to return to his homeland for many years.

Mary Ann is a first-generation college student, with a BA from Miami University, a MA from Cleveland State University, and this summer she began a doctorate program in education at the University of Pennsylvania. She is the first woman board chair of Slovenska Pristava, is on the board at Facing History, and she is actively involved in a local education collaborative known as Schools that Can.
